About
About Me
Hi, I’m Melinda. I received my Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from California State University, Sacramento, and prior to opening my private practice I worked in several mental health clinics as well as in a mental health program for adolescents experiencing homelessness. Through the years, I have had the privilege to work with people from immensely diverse backgrounds, in terms of their age, ethnicity, culture, socioeconomic status, and sexuality.
Currently, I am a therapist and counselor in private practice working with individual adults, teens, and couples. I greatly value connecting with people, and one of the most satisfying things in life for me is to help people reach their personal goals and get to know themselves better from a place of compassion and curiosity.
I work from a client-centered, harm-reduction, trauma-informed, and culturally informed perspective. I have a history of working with individuals with developmental delays and have a background in behavior therapy. I believe that clients, as humans, have the answers, and as clinicians, we are granted special permission to join clients in helping to understand and adapt their stories. I openly seek opportunities to promote wellness and connect with others within our community and with families to promote overall systemic health.
I have learned that genuine relationships, clear and direct communication, a sense of humor, and the ability and willingness to adapt are the keys to genuine well-being. I have a high degree of empathy for those who are going through major life transitions or who seek to become more grounded during stressful periods of their lives.
I enjoy giving back to the community by volunteering at the local animal shelter (which is basically playing with the kitties), volunteering as a Clinical Supervisor, and offering low-income sessions to allow others to access mental health services.
Outside of my professional life, I enjoy gardening, baking, and traveling. Last, but not least, I practice mindfulness, which, I have found, helps me stay grounded - both in professional and personal life.
